Gateway To God Ministries Presents - What The Bible Really Says

Why should I be a Christian?

Why Should I Accept Jesus and Become a Christian?

Why should anyone accept Jesus Christ and become a Christian? Many people feel their religion or spiritual beliefs already give them everything they need. But there is one question every human being must eventually face: Does your belief system offer you a way to rise from the grave and live forever?

Every person who has ever lived — including great religious teachers such as Confucius, Krishna, Buddha, and Mohammed — has died. Their teachings continue, but they themselves remain in the grave. Christ also died. But unlike every other religious figure in history, He did not remain dead.

The foundation of Christianity is not a philosophy, a ritual system, or a moral code. It is the historical claim that Jesus Christ physically rose from the dead, witnessed by many people who knew Him personally. If this is true — and the Scriptures testify that it is — then Christianity offers something no other belief system can: the promise of eternal life through the only Person who has conquered death.

Why do you need eternal life?

The strongest instinct in every human being is the desire to survive. We fight disease, aging, and danger because something deep inside us longs for life. We do not want to cease existing.

The Bible explains why:

“He has set eternity in the human heart.” (Ecclesiastes 3:11)

We were created for life — not death. But death comes to all of us. This is why the resurrection of your Savior matters. If He truly rose from the dead, then He alone has the authority to tell us how we can live again.

What eyewitness proof is there that Jesus rose from the dead?

The Bible records multiple eyewitness accounts of the resurrection. These are not vague legends or symbolic stories — they are detailed reports from people who saw Him, spoke with Him, and ate with Him after He rose.

“He is not here; He has risen, just as He said.” (Matthew 28:6)

Roman soldiers confirmed His death. His disciples confirmed His resurrection. Hundreds of people saw Him alive over a period of forty days.

“After His suffering, He presented Himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that He was alive.” (Acts 1:3)

The resurrection is not presented as a metaphor — it is presented as a fact. If Jesus truly rose from the dead, then His words about eternal life carry absolute authority.

How is Christ different from other religious leaders?

It is important to speak respectfully about other religions and their founders. Many people around the world sincerely follow the teachings of Buddha, Confucius, Krishna, or Mohammed. Their lives and writings have influenced millions.

But Christianity makes a unique claim — not about their character, but about resurrection.

Christians believe:

Jesus alone said He would rise again. He spoke of laying down His life and taking it up again. He pointed to His resurrection as the ultimate sign of His authority.

According to Scripture, He did exactly that. This is why Christians believe He is the only path to eternal life — not because other religions have no value at all, but because only Jesus conquered death and offers eternal life on the basis of His own resurrection.

Why does Jesus matter to you personally?

Many people struggle with pain, loneliness, anxiety, illness, or confusion. Others simply feel spiritually empty. Some have never heard the truth about Jesus at all. But there is one thing every human being understands: the value of friendship.

Almost everyone has had a friend who cared for them deeply. But even the best human friendships are imperfect. Jesus offers something far greater.

Who is Jesus? He is your Friend, your Savior, your Comforter, your King, your God, and your Provider. He does not demand perfection before He accepts you. He does not require rituals or special prayers. He listens to you at any moment, day or night. He knows your fears, your wounds, your regrets, and your hopes.

He offers forgiveness for every sin you have ever committed. He offers peace in times of trouble. He offers comfort when your heart is heavy. He offers eternal life in His Kingdom. And He offers all of this freely.

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith — and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God — not by works, so that no one can boast.” (Ephesians 2:8–9)

Do you have to live empty or afraid?

You don’t have to carry your burdens alone. You don’t have to fear death. You don’t have to wonder what happens after you die. You don’t have to feel unloved or forgotten.

“Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)

Jesus invites you into a relationship — not just a religion. He offers rest for your soul, peace in your heart, and the promise of eternal life.

What does Christ’s sacrifice really mean?

The Bible teaches that Christ died for sinners — for people who had no way to save themselves. To illustrate this, Christians sometimes use a parable, a fictional story that pictures a spiritual truth.

In the story, Satan boasts that he has trapped humanity in sin. He describes how people hurt one another, break God’s laws, and destroy themselves. When asked what he plans to do with them, he replies, “I will kill them.”

In the parable, Jesus asks, “How much do you want for them?”

Satan sneers, “All Your tears, all Your blood… Your very life.”

And in the story, Christ says, “Done.”

This parable is not Scripture, but it illustrates a biblical truth:

“But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)

Jesus paid the price for your sins so you could live forever. He did not wait for you to become good enough. He died for you while you were still a sinner.

Why do you need a Savior?

The Bible teaches that every person has sinned:

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)

Sin is not just doing something “bad.” Sin is breaking God’s commandments — even in small ways.

Any sin separates us from God.

“Sin is the transgression of the law.” (1 John 3:4)

And the penalty for sin is death:

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)

The wages of sin is not eternal life in another place — it is death. The end of your existence. But God offers a gift: eternal life in Christ Jesus.

How does Jesus save you?

Your Redeemer said:

“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6)

He saves you by:

You cannot earn salvation. You cannot make yourself righteous. You cannot remove your own sins. But Jesus can, and He does, for those who come to Him in repentance and faith.

What does God ask you to do?

The Bible gives a simple, clear path for those who want eternal life in God’s Kingdom.

1. Repent of your sins

Repentance is not cleaning up your life first. It is a change of heart and mind that turns you toward God and away from sin. It is sorrow for sin and a desire to obey God.

2. Believe in Jesus Christ

Believe that He died for you and rose again. Trust that His sacrifice is enough to cover all your sins.

3. Confess Him as Lord

“If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9)

4. Obey His commandments

You are not saved by keeping commandments, but those who truly love God will desire to obey Him.

“In fact, this is love for God: to keep His commands. And His commands are not burdensome.” (1 John 5:3)

5. Be baptized

“Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” (Acts 2:38)

Baptism is an important step of obedience that publicly identifies you with Christ and His death, burial, and resurrection.

6. Walk with Him daily

Talk to Him in prayer. Read His Word. Seek to know Him better. Let the Holy Spirit guide your thoughts, choices, and actions.

What happens when you accept Jesus?

When you accept Jesus as your Savior and Lord:

God promises never to abandon those who belong to Him.

“The Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Deuteronomy 31:6)

You will never walk alone again.

Are you ready to respond to Jesus?

Only you can answer these questions:

  1. Am I a sinner?
  2. Do I want forgiveness?
  3. Do I believe Jesus died and rose for me?
  4. Am I willing to surrender my life to Him?
  5. Am I ready to accept Him as my Lord and Savior?

If your answer is yes, then God is calling you to respond.

You do not need special words, but you may find it helpful to pray something like this:

Heavenly Father, I am a sinner, and I need Your forgiveness. I believe Jesus died for me and rose again. I surrender my life to You. Help me obey Your commandments and follow Jesus as my Lord and Savior. In His name I pray. Amen.

If you have repented and believed in Jesus, you have taken the first step toward eternity in God’s Kingdom. Your relationship with God will grow over time. Talk to Him. Read His Word. Seek fellowship with other believers. Be baptized. Let the Holy Spirit guide you.

“Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5)

You are not alone. You are loved. You are forgiven. And through Jesus Christ, you can live forever.
